How to download and install fivem GTA RP for free and optimize for low-end PCs

Playing GTA V roleplay online on your low-end PC is definitely possible, even without having a latest-generation graphics card. I’ll show you how good optimization of your Windows and some other very valuable tips will already help you a lot.

First, you’ll need to have GTA 5 already installed on your PC. If you don’t have it yet, you can get it now on Epic or on steam.

The installation steps are simple and I’ll show you below how to do everything correctly, without errors.

First, go to the website https://fivem.net. Click on “Download client Fivem.exe”:

On the next screen, you’ll have the option to accept or decline the terms of service. In order to download, you’ll have to agree to these terms. Read everything carefully and, if you agree, click on “Sure, I agree”.

Once that’s done, after accepting, the download should start automatically. This may take a few minutes, depending on your internet connection.

After the download finishes, you must go to the folder where the file fivem.exe was saved. Once you do that, all FiveM updates will start downloading to your computer.

When it’s finished, a screen will appear asking you to select where the folder where your GTA V was installed is located. If you bought it on Steam and didn’t customize the path, it can be found at “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V\”. And if it’s on Epic, the path is “C:\Program Files\Epic Games\GTAV”. If the path you indicated is correct, the installer will move on to the next part, which is verifying the integrity of your game files.

After some time checking, a small window will appear warning that your files need to be updated. If you wish to continue, you must click “Yes” to proceed with the update and download the remaining files.

Done, congratulations! Everything is set! Now that you already have GTA V and FiveM installed and updated on your computer, let’s get to what matters: how to optimize your low-end PC to run FiveM:

In FiveM, there are several ways to do this. But let’s go with what is most well-known.

The most recommended option is to clear FiveM’s cache every time before opening the FiveM executable. To do this, you need to delete the cache from the FiveM folder, or create an automatic command, as explained in this tutorial here.

Another widely used method is to lower the graphics in GTA V’s options. You should set all graphics and effects to the minimum. No exceptions.

In Windows, you should disable visual effects. To do this, go to “Run”, type “sysdm.pcl” and press Enter. Then click on Advanced > Performance > Settings > Click on the option “Adjust for best performance”.

Don’t forget to adjust your power plan as well: Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. Here you should select “High performance”.

Other extra recommended options include:

  • updating the Intel/AMD graphics driver

  • lowering GTA V’s resolution in the in-game options

  • increasing the process priority for FiveM to High in Ctrl > Shift > Esc > Details

  • prioritizing playing in cities with few modifications, or that are already optimized

  • closing Discord, browser, Spotify and other processes while you’re playing

Done! Now your PC is optimized to run GTA FiveM with the best performance your hardware can offer.
