I was thinking the same thing when the 50xx cards were launched with 8 GB. The amount of VRAM isn’t the only thing that matters — the architecture, bandwidth, and efficiency also play an important role. That said, swapping a 12 GB 3060 for an 8 GB 5060 can feel like a downgrade in some situations, especially if you play newer AAA games that are already hitting VRAM limits. In terms of raw performance, the 5060 should be faster thanks to the newer architecture, but you lose the “future-proofing” that the extra VRAM provides. Honestly, NVIDIA cutting VRAM on lower/mid-range cards has more to do with cost and market segmentation than with any technical limitation.
