The journey through feudal Japan in the Ghost of Tsushima franchise may be far from over. After the positive reception of Ghost of Yotei, released in 2025, expectations are growing that Sucker Punch Productions, in partnership with Sony, is laying the groundwork for a new chapter in the series.
According to Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Lin Tao, the strong commercial performance of Ghost of Yotei was highlighted in a conversation with investors. The game sold more than Ghost of Tsushima in the same period after launch. In its first 32 days, the title reached 3.3 million copies sold, surpassing the 2.4 million recorded by the original game.
This information has reinforced speculation about a third game, which could be developed to target the PlayStation 6. There is still no official confirmation, but Sony has already proven that when it comes to a successful franchise, they don’t waste time.
Considered a sequel in terms of legacy, but not narrative, Ghost of Yotei is set 300 years after the events of the first game. Atsu’s story focused on themes such as revenge, redemption, and the search for purpose, with references to Jin Sakai and well-known figures from Japanese mythology, while presenting striking landscapes and a more emotional plot.
In addition, the art direction, graphical improvements, less repetitive activities, and the soundtrack were widely praised, with many players considering the title a solid continuation and, in some respects, as impactful as the original.
For now, the existence of a third game remains in the realm of rumor. Even so, the community’s enthusiasm shows that interest in the franchise remains high and that a new ghost would be well received.
Ghost of Yotei is exclusive to PlayStation 5.
