Curious to know what young people are playing. What are the games of the moment? Is PC still the best?
Back in the day, everyone only played those MMORPG-style games, I think that’s what they’re called. Mu Online, Tibia, Ragnarok, WoW… But what about nowadays? What do they play? Has this type of game died?
Recently I noticed that Amazon released its own MMO. People even talked about it a bit, but then it stopped.
Is it the end, maybe?
Honestly, several that are popular, like Black Myth Wukong, Space Marine 2, Helldivers 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 still hit more than 100 thousand concurrent players on Steam, Cyberpunk 2077 hits 50 thousand, not to mention the indies that are getting more and more amazing and all the time there’s something for every taste, like Nine Sols and Tactical Breach Wizards.
In my opinion the PC is still the best place to play, you don’t depend on a single store, you have Steam, GOG and Epic which are the main ones, exclusive games like Lethal Company and old PC games, and the best part is that you don’t pay to play online, better sales, among other things. It may even be more expensive at first to build a PC than to buy a console, but over time it really becomes cheaper.
MMORPGs aren’t dead, they just declined a bit, a lot of people still play WoW and every now and then there’s one that gets released, so the audience is there and playing. There was Ragnarok which, if I’m not mistaken, came out last year; I played a bit but I don’t really like this genre so my opinion doesn’t count for much.
The new MMORPG from Amazon, I only saw one video from videogamedunkey making fun of the game and on Steam it has mixed reviews, but it’s free I think, and if you like it you can try it to see if you enjoy it.
I didn’t know people still played Cyberpunk. I remember buying it on the now-defunct Stadia for 70 euros at the time. It gave me several hours of good gameplay, but I got to a part that bugged and I completely lost motivation. Shortly after, Stadia shut down and refunded me for all the games.
Is it worth getting back to it?
I played Cyberpunk at launch on PS4, it was crap lol but I still loved the game. On PC is where it’s really worth it in my opinion, especially with the DLC, which is one of the best DLCs I’ve ever played, so it’s really worth playing again.
Which DLC is that? I’m out of the loop. My dream was an online mod for this game made by the community. Just like they always did for GTA. But I don’t think there’s been one to this day.
The DLC is Phantom Liberty, it takes everything from the base game and improves it, there’s a new district, side quests, weapons and cars.
A multiplayer mod would really be amazing, but CD Red released a modding tool so I imagine one day it’ll come out.
