I signed up for a new internet plan where they promise 10 Gbps download per second. That speed is over cable, since Wi‑Fi still has the limitations of our time. Even so, over Wi‑Fi it reaches almost 1 Gbps using a repeater.
The problem with connecting via cable is that, before signing up for this internet plan, there was an issue I didn’t think about: here at home we don’t have the hardware for that. I bought a Cat 8 cable that can handle 10 Gbps, but my current network card in my desktop PC also limits the network to a maximum of 2 Gbps. And in tests, that’s exactly what I got, even using Speedtest.
That’s why now I’m looking for a network card that can handle 10. I’d like to know which model I need to buy, because if I’m not mistaken, the current network card must be soldered on the motherboard, which is a TUF Gaming WIFI Pro. So I’m looking for a network card that plugs in below my graphics card. If I’m not mistaken that slot is called PCIe.
If I install a 10 Gbps PCIe network card and connect my Cat 8 cable, will everything work fine?
