Is it worth switching to Linux when you’re older?

From what I remember, I’ve always been a Windows user. My first was Windows 2000. I never switched. I had a Mac for a very short time and ended up selling it soon after because I couldn’t get used to Apple’s system, macOS.

Later, I tried Ubuntu. People told me it was very lightweight. I thought it was very beautiful, but back then there were many compatibility issues. But that was because I only knew Windows programs, so I tried to use everything through Wine, which for those who don’t know, is kind of like a Windows emulator for Linux.

Well, now in 2025, I wanted to make one last change. I saw the latest news related to Windows and didn’t like it much. I’m talking about the change where it’s no longer possible to log into Windows without an account.

Now I want to know, which Linux modification is currently most worth using? Should I give Ubuntu another chance?

MacOS is easier to get used to than any Linux, and you said you couldn’t get used to it at the time, so I find it hard to recommend unless there’s a good reason for using it. I use all three: Windows on my personal computer, Mac at my work, and Ubuntu on my server and as a backup for work on my personal computer (virtual machine).
I find all of them equally capable, but each has its specialties, annoyances, and peculiarities. For Linux, I always recommend Ubuntu for its ease, it’s the simplest to install directly and use for basic things; like all Linux, it requires some skill with the terminal, to install programs and sort out some issues.
There are programs that simply don’t run, they need Wine. And sometimes even with Wine, it doesn’t work! If you’re willing, give it another chance, it costs nothing. You can install Ubuntu on a USB drive and run it “portable” to do a test drive.

what you mentioned about Windows I think is the local account, if you already have it installed nothing changes. I think it’s only in new installations that you will have to use a Microsoft account.

in the case of Linux you can try Zorin OS, it has a very friendly interface you feel in a “Windows environment”

For Linux I think it’s Ubuntu or nothing. There’s no prettier or more modern interface.
