SteamOS is an operating system like Windows, macOS, Ubuntu… except that it is focused on gamers.
Made by Steam, based on Linux and created to turn your PC into a true Steam video game console.

If you have already changed your operating system before, you won’t have any trouble with this tutorial. But don’t worry, it’s easy for beginners too.
Before starting the installation process, make a backup of all your files now. I recommend Google Drive.
Next, pay attention to the minimum requirements. SteamOS, as described at the beginning of this tutorial, is made for games, so you will need a graphics card to run at the minimum, such as an NVIDIA GTX 1050 or higher, 4 GB of RAM, a 64‑bit Intel or AMD processor, and at least 250 GB of storage.
With all that done, now we need:
- A USB flash drive, formatted in FAT32
- Go to the official website and get the SteamOS Image
- Unzip the SteamOSInstaller.zip file and put it on the flash drive you just formatted.
After this step, just restart the computer, enter the BIOS (usually the Delete or F12 key, depending on the motherboard) and select the flash drive (UEFI) as the first boot option.
From there, the computer will restart and you will need to select the “install automatically” option.
Once that’s done, the formatting of your hard drive will begin, all your files will be erased, and then the installation of SteamOS will start.
All set! Now just finish configuring the system with your Wi‑Fi, language, etc., and link the PC to your Steam account.
