Even before its official debut on February 27, Resident Evil Requiem has already become a hit among specialized critics. The new chapter in the franchise has received very positive scores on Metacritic, with even higher ratings on the PC, Xbox, and Switch 2 versions, particularly pleasing the saga’s most veteran fans.
Players who had early access to the title reinforce the quality of the release, and for a large part of the community, Resident Evil Requiem is a strong contender for GOTY (Game of the Year) 2026. The game already holds the position of the highest-rated title of the year, and the warm reception reflects the belief that Capcom knows exactly what it takes to dominate the genre.
On the other hand, some players point out that the year still has ambitious releases ahead, such as GTA VI, Forza Horizon 6, and Crimson Desert, the highly anticipated RPG scheduled for March, in addition to other major titles that are expected to shake up the video game scene throughout 2026.
Even so, Requiem continues to win over the public with the return of Leon S. Kennedy at his peak and with a nostalgic appeal that promises to address unresolved questions in the franchise. If the positive buzz remains strong, the game has everything it needs to secure a place among the leading names at the end-of-year awards.
Resident Evil Requiem officially launches on February 27, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
