I see a lot of gaming PCs currently being sold with Linux already installed. There must be some good reason for that. Is there any noticeable performance gain, does it increase FPS?

I think you do gain a bit more performance, yes. But it’s not really worth it because many games use Windows.
A good period is coming for Windows because they are making a version of the system in the style of SteamOS, where it already boots into a HUD with games and a store, and background things that aren’t games stay disabled.
It will already come together with the portable device licensed under the Xbox brand. But it’s only a matter of time before a system image appears to install on PC.
