You’d only find those games at the street market closest to your house. Of course, they never actually existed – usually it was an older version with some mods, but the title was changed to make it look like a recent, up‑to‑date game. Just like what’s happening now with GTA 6, which we’ve already started seeing at the market: that printed cover sheet, plastic wrapped around it, and sometimes the DVD-R even comes with a sticker of the game’s cover, looking really professional.
Thing is, I never really saw how that stuff was made. I mean… kind of. I had a friend back in 2015 whose PC case had more than five DVD burners/readers. I know he did that for a while, but I never understood why he stopped.
But it was funny seeing the game names and covers, Bomba Patch–style and so on. And sometimes there were mashups too. I once saw a “Chaves” game that was nothing more and nothing less than a modded version of GTA SA where CJ was “chavinho del ocho” lol.
What about you, what’s the most absurd bootleg market game you’ve ever seen?
