List of gaming forums still active, shut down, or moved to Discord

I think we’d been needing a list like this, so I decided to make one. I’m going to put the site names here, whether they migrated (Facebook, Discord, WhatsApp) or shut down, and I’ll also mention which forums are still active.

Since I never remember dates, some will end up with a (?) anyway. If you know the exact date, please let me know in the comments.

Just a reminder that I’m only going to list forums related to the gaming niche. I’ll post all the ones I remember, and if anyone has more to add to the list, just drop them down below. I’ll try to update the list frequently; unfortunately, it’s only likely to grow in this day and age.

Gaming communities are dying

Site Status Year Language
Uol Jogos Shut down 2018 pt-BR
Players Shut down 2024 pt-BR
Space Engine Migrated 2025 en
Click 21 Shut down ? pt-BR
Insider Gaming Migrated 2025 en
Game Vicio Shut down ? pt-BR
Start Select Shut down ? pt-BR
Fighters Shut down ? pt-BR
Retrobits Shut down ? pt-BR
NES Archive Shut down ? pt-BR

As for the gaming forums that are still active, I’m not going to make a list, because they’re getting rarer and rarer. What’s left is this forum where I’m writing this post (Gamer Nation), ResetEra (which was recently sold for $4M), NeoGAF, Adrenaline, Outer Space, and HardMob.

The others have already turned into communities with very little activity, abandoned, with no new posts for several months — apart from artificial intelligence posts with links to sketchy sites.

The problem is that every trend eventually fades. There’s no way around it. Remember the meme comics? The “ffffuuuuu”, “forever alone”, “tenso”… how many blogs were created just about that stuff that was huge back then? The titles were always two random things that had nothing to do with anything. For example: “electronic cockroach”, “shy dog”, “shepherd bottle”, and so on.

Forums are the same thing. They just don’t work anymore. They’re not adapted to our current times. People nowadays are getting lazier and lazier. Nobody wants to have to write anymore. When we look for an answer to a problem, we want it instantly. Nobody wants to post a problem on a forum and then sit there waiting days for a reply.

We’re in the era of A.I. and social networks – at least until one day all of this ends and something new comes along.

You’ve described the current times very accurately. That makes me sad, because I’ve only just discovered the forums now after many years on the internet.
