8‑pin graphics card and 6‑pin power supply

I bought my first graphics card after several years playing with the processor’s “graphics card”, which is onboard.

And then I ran into the following situation: my dear GPU has an 8‑pin connector, and my power supply only has a 6‑pin PCI‑E.

Is there any way to adapt this, or do I now have to change the graphics card/power supply? Isn’t there any safe adapter? Can I remove pins and try to plug it in?
