Game Informer shuts down and takes its entire archive with it

Yeah… After 33 years, one of the oldest video game magazines is shutting down and taking its entire website archive with it.

End of Game Informer

This is the world adapting. Just like having a landline doesn’t make sense when we have cell phones, buying magazines doesn’t make sense when we have the internet. And that’s even good for the environment.

But still, sad news.

@analfabeto, man, what a shame. If at least they had kept the digital page to preserve the collection...

But yesterday I was thinking precisely about how much less paper we produce with the advent of technology, despite other problems inherent to this change, such as electronic waste, misinformation, etc.

There’s a story going around that GameStop didn’t even tell them they were going to shut down. They’ve even just deleted that Twitter account of theirs as well.

Luckily some people are already recovering the collection on archive.org

@forumjogos @analfabeto, whew! Thank goodness.

By the way, I recommend this year’s video with a very competent history of GameStop with Marcel from Minicastle. Those guys do a really nice job!

the good part is that they put everything on archive.org before shutting everything down
