Wolfenstein 3 may be released, reveals MachineGames director

The wait for a new Wolfenstein may be coming to an end. In a recent interview with GameIndustry Biz, Jerk Gustafsson, director of MachineGames, revealed that the studio still intends to conclude the story of B.J. Blazkowicz.

The statement came as the director was commenting on the company’s upcoming projects and recent successes, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. When asked about the rumors surrounding a direct continuation of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Gustafsson was careful, but made it clear that the story is not over.

“Our intention has always been to return to Wolfenstein. We wanted to finish the trilogy. When that will happen, I can’t comment. It could be now, it could be later, but we’re not done with it.”

The remark does not bring a date, nor an official confirmation of possible development. Even so, it represents a more concrete sign than in recent years that Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus may finally receive a well‑deserved sequel. Released in 2017, the title marked the second chapter of the saga’s new phase and left room for a concluding sequel. The franchise has received some spin‑offs such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood and even Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot. Meanwhile, the protagonist’s arc remains officially open, with many possible endings.

Over the years, Wolfenstein has built a strong identity by mixing intense action, fiction, cinematic storytelling, and a dark alternate World War II timeline with a charismatic protagonist. The absence of a third chapter keeps the feeling of an unfinished story alive, something the developer itself seems to have acknowledged.

For now, the project remains in the realm of expectation until an official confirmation. But, for the first time in years, the studio publicly admits that the plan is still on track. For fans, that alone is reason enough to keep their hopes up and believe that they will finally get the iconic Terror Billy back.
